October 9th, 2018 by

A rustic autumn still life with organic pumpkins in the hay. Organic farm concept.

It’s that time of year again, time to pack up the family and head out to Redding to pick the perfect pumpkin for Halloween. You may already have your favorite spot in mind, but if you’ve never been out, or you’re looking for new activities around Shasta Lake, check out our suggestions and get your fall started right.

Organic Matters Ranch

The perfect place to choose a certified organic pumpkin for your décor and grab some yummy organic veggies while you’re at it. It’s a bit of a drive from Redbluff but well worth it for the fresh, chemical-free food you’ll find there. The patch opens October 1st, and pumpkins are available only through Halloween, so hurry and get yours before they’re all gone!

Hawes Ranch

Just north of Red Bluff, you’ll find Hawes Ranch nestled right along the Sacramento River. They offer visitors a wide range of fun activities, including a corn maze, hay rides, zip-line, pig races, pony rides, and much more, making it the perfect event for Yreka families who want to make a day of it.

Nash Ranch

Nash Ranch features acres of pumpkins, a corn maze, farm animal petting zoo, bounce house, obstacle course, a train ride and, for the hungry traveler, a burger stand complete with snacks, burgers, hot dogs, and soda. They even have an energy buster play area for little ones, so you can wear them out properly before piling them into your stylish new Jeep Grand Cherokee for the trip back to Dunsmuir

Hunter Orchards

Another organic ranch offering pesticide-free fruits and veggies, Hunter Orchards is a ways outside of Chico, but well worth the drive, for the wide variety of homegrown pumpkins and fall gourds, as well as the breathtaking views of Mount Shasta. After you’ve picked your squash, head over to the market and sample their fall fruits and jams, or treat yourself to the hay maze and watch the kids run amok.
